Drosophila Genes Involved in Programmed Cell Death

Characterization of Drosophila Genes involved in Programmed Cell Death

Scientists at Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre published their work in the journal PloS Genetics entitled: "Steroid hormone control of cell death and cell survival:  molecular insights using RNAi.  Programmed cell death is an important process in normal development and in human diseases such as cancer.  This work identifies and characterizes new genes involved in developmentally regulated call death in Drosophila, providing new molecular and mechanistic insights which may be relevant to the process of human disease progression.
