New software for genetic analysis
Scientists at Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre announce Today the FindPeaks 3.1 software. Published in the journal Bioinformatics, the FindPeaks software aids scientists utilizing next-generation sequencing approaches to more precisely map positions along chromosomes where proteins interact with the DNA sequence. Since these protein interactions typically control the behavior of genes, specifying whether they should be turned on or off, the use of this software will aid in the understanding of cellular function and in diseases, such as cancer, where gene mis-regulation is a common contributing component.
